Im movin soon! Im so excited and i already have a bit of info from people with yahoo answers, you guys have helped me so much and i was wondering if you have more adviceIm moving to ireland in a couple of years, any advice from people who live there, any advice at all?
Well I wouldn't class a couple of years as ';soon'; but I'm glad you are excited. My advise would be to bring an umbrella and wellingtons because it stops raining for approximately 9 days each year.
Seriously where are you actually moving to? Ireland is a big enough country, its hard to advise you unless you tell us which town/city/county you are going to be living in. Life in the centre of Dublin is completely different from say Timoleague. In the small towns the Post Office still shuts for lunch and you will find more tractors than cars on the roads some days.
We are in the depths of a recession here at the moment but hopefully in 2 years time things will have eased.Im moving to ireland in a couple of years, any advice from people who live there, any advice at all?
I can't believe 'just my opinion' would label all irish people with the people he has encountered, its just not fair... I live in Limerick, and it probably has the worst name any county in Ireland has. I have lived in the city, right before it got 'bad' and am now in the county. I work with foreign people all day long and we get along just fine. In any country your in you are bound to find, ignorant, selfish, and racist people. Its just the way the world is. That does not mean one should not come to Ireland to live. And the main reason why people in Ireland have such a dislike to ' foreigners', is because every second Irish person knows one, and we all know what most of them are up to. They came here while things were going good, In the Celtic Tiger, which we were all as a nation happy to welcome them, most of them worked for much less pay as Irish people would and Irish people felt they were being pushed out because of this. Also they would spend very little here, they were not putting the money back into our economy. Alot of them were and still are sending their wages back home to their families in their countries. And now things have gone bad here, alot of them are gone home. But the ones still here, are claiming benefits and still sending most of that money back home. They are also claiming child benefit here, and in their own countries for their children although their children don't reside here in Ireland with them. That is the reason why you hear Irish people 'giving out' about foreigners. Not me personally as I have no hard feelings towards anyone living in our nation, but I know alot of people that do. Ireland is a lovely place to live, and with the right circle of friends and neighbours you will love living here

';And the main reason why people in Ireland have such a dislike to ' foreigners', is because every second Irish person knows one, and we all know what most of them are up to.';
What is that supposed to mean? You have contradicted yourself with this statement. You feel you don't want to be put into a category of people who ';dislike foreigners'; but its ok to categorize foreigners as people who you believe get to up bad things - ';we all know what most of them get up to';
This statement in itself is just lobbing every foreign person in the county into a category!
I agree with just my opinion. I have lived in Ireland all my life and am currently trying to leave. Irish people are very ignorant (as shown in what I just said above) and hate it when people are smarter or are above average then them. its only acceptable in ireland to be average joe and to work yourself into the ground in a bad job with average wage.
This is why I want to leave Ireland, because the people are so closed minded and have been brain****ed by the Catholic Church into thinking they have to be nice and average and if your anything more its full on evil!
Don't come to Ireland. you could live in a tropical paradise and buy a mansion for the same price as living here. Thats what I plan to do.. :) see ya'll in hell.
ireland is a big place (honestly it is) with much differences from east to west. north to south...
So we talking Cork, Dublin or somewhere in between ?
and what are used to... where abouts are you town or near city..
So people can compare what you know. to what they know.
great place though, great people...
and they love Euro's like the rest of europe :)
And pay for all their carrier bags in tesco's and the like... so bring some free ones with you !!
Justmyopinion, where are you from and what part of Ireland are you in?
I find it incredible that you are receiving such treatment. My other half is foreign and he is considered an asset to his employers.
when you do your shopping bring your own bags, and shop in aldi, lidle or tesco there cheaper than Dunne's or Marks and Spencer's.
don't live in Dolphins Barn ha ha!
dont it sucks its to cold :(
When I arrived in Ireland, I was really socked how impolite are the people and how arrogant towards the foreigners. It gave me a very bad taste the fact they don't know eachother and don't even say hallo...
The daily life is hard and lonely if you are not Irish. The Irish avoid no natives in their private circles. Dublin (which I suppose it the city you want to go) is a very dangerous and dirty place. Some neighborhoods are great but that's all. There is so much drag dealing crime and racism attacks on daily basis. I am half Greek and half Italian and I have been treated like I was an arab. I know, I made a lot of European friends (French, Germans...) and they all share my opinion so far. I would say don't go but I don't know from what place of America you move I know every state is different, so you may find something completely different or not. I had a lot of American friends, some of them were Hispanics and their daughter received death threats from the other school girls because of the color!!! Others found the Irish very narrow minded. Just type on youtube Ireland and in every video you see check the comments below. Don't be schocked. In every single video the denounce immigration and the worst there is no other voice to stop them. In fact there cannot be other voice as in Ireland anti racism organizations don't exist.
Every Irish person I met, he/she didn't hesitate to express a dislikable feeling about immigration like ';Blame the foreigners not the Irish'; or ';I don't like the foreigners because they are taking our jobs';, ';Immigration is the worst problems in Ireland';, ';I am happy we us Irish made you feel so uncomfortable here. This is what we like to do to alienate people in order to leave our country';... Another lady in my x-work place ';I hate London, is full of foreigners today. That's the only problem we have with the English today. They bring us more immigrants'; and that from a person who lived both in New York and London. You can maybe search in forums to see how racists they are... There is a racist forum where those buffons exchange their sick ideas and there is a section only for the Irish...
Some would say, the Irish have no epxerience in inward immigration. I think this is not an excuse at all. It's in their blood to be racists and I know other countries with less years of immigration and they get on much better. And maybe they forgot the Irish disapora is 10 times the size of the country in the map. That explains how false is the myth about the Irish hospitality! Only the Irish say that, the 80pc of the foreigners would agree that Ireland is a very racist country.
I am sure no Irish person would like to see that here but this is the truth they cannot accept. Some Irish are nice but their attitude is very anti-social. Communication and hunman touch in something unknown in Ireland.
Flat rentals.... the most expensive market in Europe. Minimum wage about 1300 euro and a flat with 1000... unless you want to share with other flatmates but I am sure you don't want to leave your country to live like an immigrant in USA 50 years before...
Driving... I don't drive so I can't tell you but have in mind here they drive from the other side and everything is smaller.
Shoping... Find a good ISP that allows you more than 5Gb download per week and then you will have the chance to find everything.
