I'm going to build houses in New Orleans, any advice from people who have done this?

I am going with my UU church to build houses in New Orleans. I'm excited but I want to be prepared emotionally and physically. I know many churches and organizations go down to lend a hand... does anyone have any advice, pragmatic or otherwise, for me? What was your experience like, and was there anything you wish you'd known before hand?

Many thanks. : )I'm going to build houses in New Orleans, any advice from people who have done this?
I went down there last year. What an amazing time! Open your heart to where ever God will lead you. You will never see more appreciation for the help that you provide these people! I wish I could have stayed much much longer! My advice: know as much as possible about the facility that you are staying at. That way you know what your group needs to bring and what is already there. Many sites have had many groups come and go and many things are already down there and you don't need to bring them as well.I'm going to build houses in New Orleans, any advice from people who have done this?
I administered the hurricane recovery recovery program started by American Red Cross, other groups are the Mennonites, Habitat for Humanity, Lutheran Ministries. You are doing a wonderful thing, bless you!

The governor had a program there too called ';The Road Home'; you might want to google it!
