I play in a team, and I was to point out that what this one person is doing isn't working, but from experience, I've learned that when you try to give people advice, the whole ego thing starts to kick in.
How can I go about telling this person w/o offending him?How do I give people advice w/o offending them?
ask them to ';help'; you figure out a problem using a third person as the example.
Advice: wise people don't need it and fools will ignore it.How do I give people advice w/o offending them?
It took me many years to learn that the time to offer advice is when you are asked for it.
Even then you risk offending someone.
The best way (if you feel you must) is to use YOURSELF as the example. ';When this happens I do this, and it seems to work this way.'; Rather than saying, ';When YOU do this, you should be doing THIS.';
First of all, do it privately. Compliment what you can about what they're doing right. Then say, ';but I'd like to point out.... and I think if you try this or that, i think it would make a considerable improvement';... something like that. And act very casual... that's all i got.
you have to put a positive spin on it. If you give a negative criticism, make it constructive , and also give then a positive compliment beforehand to soften the blow. Some people just cannot take it....
Maybe a simple ';would you be interested in me showing you a way that might be easier';( or better or whatever) it would give him the option to accept your help or reject it with no offense taken
just be yourself and ask the question....but before you ask the question are give advice say no offense but this is how you do it... good luck
Tell ur coach %26amp; let him sort it out
